If you'd like to change your social rented home, you may be able to swop with another customer through a process called mutual exchange. The person you swap with can be renting from us, a different housing association or even a council housing body.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I need to have been in my current home?

If you've been in your current home for 12 months or more, then you could look at swapping homes with somebody else. 

Who can I swap homes with?

You can swap homes with any Aspire Housing customer, or anyone from a different social housing landlord.

Where can I see available homes to swap?

We encourage all our customer who are looking at swapping their home to look for a mutual exchange. You can view available homes with Homeswapper

Is there a charge to join Homeswapper?

There is a cost involved in joining Homeswapper, however, if you're up-to-date with your rent then we will cover the costs of joining. (A customer doesn't have to use Homeswapper if they don't wish. You can arrange a swap homes with other people directly. A number of customers use Social Media networks or find adverts in local shop windows/noticeboards.

What happens if I have rent arrears?

If you have any rent arrears, you will need to reduce your arrears to 0.00 before a mutual exchange will be possible. 

How long does a mutual exchange take?

From start to finish it can take around six to  eight weeks for the mutual exchange paperwork to be completed. 

Can I arrange viewings?

We would high recommand that you both view each others homes before any mutual exchange paperwork is complated. This is a very important step as this gives you an opportunity to address any issues before hand.
