Housing plan for derelict pub site

A derelict pub that has been a source of antisocial behaviour has been purchased by Aspire Housing.

The Woodshutts pub in Lower Ash Road, Talke, will now be fenced off and secured before being demolished, subject to planning permission being granted.

The site will then be redeveloped in a housing-led scheme as part of Aspire Housing’s ongoing programme of providing hundreds of new homes across North Staffordshire over the next few years.

Dan Gray, Aspire Group head of asset management and development: “We are very pleased to have completed the purchase of The Woodshutts.

“We know this site has been an area of concern for the local community and we have listened to what people want for the site in the future.

“We will demolish the pub as soon as we can and then begin working up plans for a housing-led project that meets the needs of the local community.

“It will be some time before any houses are built, but the crucial first steps of purchasing and securing the site are now complete.”

The number of new homes to be provided on the site has not been decided but is likely to be up to 20.
