Thousands of children across North Staffordshire will have a special Christmas present thanks to a joint appeal by Aspire Housing and Tesco.
The supermarket is encouraging customers at ten of its stores to donate a toy as they do their shopping.
The main stores are: Uttoxeter, Hanley, Meir Park, Trent Vale, Kidsgrove, Congleton, Longton, and Crewe. The express stores are Newcastle and Blythe Bridge.
Last year’s appeal resulted in 3,000 toys being donated.
The presents will be given to the charities at a Christmas party in Sandon Primary School, Meir, on Monday, December 12 with special guests the Mayor of Uttoxeter, Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Mayor of Newcastle, Mayor of Congleton and Santa.
Sharon Battiste, Engagement Assistant at Aspire Housing, said: “This is the fifth year we’ve run a Christmas toy appeal with Tesco and we’re going to smash last year’s 3,000 total.
“These toys go to children who otherwise would not get much at Christmas.
“It’s heart-warming that so many people remember to think of others at this time or year.”
